Shake off those winter blues by stimulating your senses at one of Yarraville Community Centre’s short courses this August.
It is not unusual to hibernate in the winter, however, isolation can increase feelings of depression so it’s a great idea to stay connected, learn something new and meet your local community at a short course. Here are a few tips to help you find the invincible warmth in you to beat the winter blues…
Health and Wellbeing – A daily gratitude practice or regular yoga, tai chi or Pilates classes helps to improve self-awareness, build resilience and increases energy. As you begin to develop a healthier, more detached relationship from your thoughts and feelings, you’ll realise how much more power you have in moderating your mood.
Get creative – Find things that uplift you. You might like to try your hand at cooking comfort food such as profiteroles and eclairs or sourdough! Or paint a watercolour scene from a place you’d rather be at the watercolour workshop.
Get the children moving – Children all ages can enjoy movement and dance at Yarraville Community centre’s hip, hop, jazz, ballet and creative movement classes to burn some energy!
Challenge yourself – Learn a language or try your hand at ukulele to stimulate your mind to keep those endorphins flowing.
Reconnect – Reconnecting at the Chatty Café where people, like you, from the community will come together to talk and connect in a safe and friendly space. Everyone is warmly welcomed every Wednesday 10.00am – 11.00am at 59 Francis Street.
“At Yarraville Community Centre, we’re thrilled to be offering face-to-face as well as online courses, and behind the scenes we’re working hard to bring you the best courses possible, and safely,” says Christine McCall. The Yarraville Community Centre strives to be a safe place for the community. A COVID Safe plan is in place with the following safety protocols to keep everyone safe:
- You will find a mix of online and face-to-face classes
- Small classes sizes
- All YCC staff wear masks while working on site and all visitors who visit YCC are asked to wear face masks
- Good air circulation with air purifiers in all areas
- All high-touch areas are disinfected
