Introduction to Clay Sculpture

Course summary

This four-hour workshop promises to encourage unlimited exploration and creativity!

In this workshop, our engaging and friendly tutor, Ilona, will introduce you to the art of forming clay by hand. You will learn the basic nature of clay, and how to manipulate, shape, and decorate it to bring a sculpture to life.

By spontaneously arranging modelled figures, whether human or animal, or plants and things, you will learn to create your own scenarios, and there are no limits on creativity.

Artistic knowledge is not necessary, and beginners are welcome!

What you will learn

  • basic clay modelling techniques specific for sculpture
  • an understanding of tools and materials suitable for sculpting with clay
  • making 3-dimensional work and developing an individual approach

What you will get

  • a range of techniques with the opportunity to explore your own creative project
  • how to progress from simple shapes to more complex live forms
  • take home your very own creation

What you need to bring

  • drink bottle
  • apron
  • wear casual/older clothes and covered or closed-in shoes – clay can get messy!
